CS 371g Summer 2020: Michael Lee
Where did I grow up?
I grew up in Dallas, Texas.
Why are you majoring in CS?
Personally, I’m majoring in CS because I enjoy the process of problem-solving, and CS is probably the only field that allows you to tackle difficult problems across all industries
How much C++ do you already know?
I’m pretty comfortable with modern C++, most of my work throughout my internships have been in C++ and I personally like to stay updated on new proposals for the standard.
How did you feel about the cold calling?
I thought it was fine, though I think going forward the callees should default to being muted unless speaking to minimize the background noise.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
For anyone interested in C/C++ or compilers, I would strongly recommend that you check out Compiler Explorer. Compiler Explorer allows you to type C/C++ code and simultaneously view the generated assembly from your choice of compiler and flags. If you’ve ever wondered about the secret optimizations that your compiler does under the hood, such as short string optimization, I strongly suggest you give it a try.
